Given begins with natural stones whose forms are accepted rather than redesigned. Each stone is paired with a fabricated structure that introduces function while attempting to preserve the material as it was found. The work considers the relationship between human intention and what already exists: how much should be made, and how much should be left alone? Rather than treating nature as raw material awaiting transformation, Given asks the maker to assume a more restrained role—observing, responding, and intervening only as much as necessary. The resulting objects exist between found and made, nature and artifact, intention and acceptance.
